Switzerland is Ranked the Second-Highest Level of Human and Economic Freedom in the World

HFI or Human Freedom index, which is the broad measure of personal and economic freedom in various distinct areas included legal system and property rights, freedom to trade internationally and regulation of credit, labour and business, announced on its 2019 annual report that Switzerland has the highest level of freedom in Europe, second-highest globally and has remained in the top 3 positions for more than 10 years since 2008.

The country hit the top score of 10/10 in freedom of movement, freedom of association, assembly and demonstration. Moreover, it got 9.9 out of 10 in relation to safety and robust monetary policy, known as “sound money”.

The findings in the index also suggest that people in jurisdictions with greater freedom tend to be more affluent then in the jurisdictions with less freedom. As well, the index shows that the countries with high levels of personal freedom also have high levels of economic freedom.

For this reason, together with the low VAT and corporate tax rates, skilled workers, and political stability, Switzerland has become one of the most attractive locations for companies. It is also home to 15 of the 500 world’s largest corporations, incl. Novartis and Roche, UBS and Credit Suisse, Nestle, Glencore, etc.
