We Support
MATANYA PRIMARY SCHOOL, KENYA
Matanya Primary School is located in Laikipia County in central Kenya. The local village has just under 800 people. There are 397 students enrolled at Montana Primary School. There has been many challenges for the children to receive education, such as poor infrastructure of the school and shortage of school meals. F Trust supports the Matanya school via Human Practice Foundation.
F TRUST’S SUPPORT IN 2021 - CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL CLASSROOMS AND TOILETS
There are 397 students enrolled at Matanya Primary School in 2021 and the current infrastructure at the school was in a terrible state before the construction project. One building was made from timber and got incredibly hot during the dry seasons in Kenya. It was not safe for teaching. The other buildings had dirt floors and were very dark, but the structures were in a decent state which is why we only needed to renovate these.. Some of the students are taught in an old wooden building where water leaks when it rains and the floors are muddy.
We support Human Practice Foundation on the construction project to build and renovate classrooms that are spacious, light and climate resilient to ensure the structures will last through the harsh weather conditions.
Our donation initiated phase 1 of the project which was constructing 2 new classrooms, renovate the current classrooms in the good building and constructing a new toilet building. The construction started in July 2021 and completed in November 2022.
F TRUST’S SUPPORT IN 2022 - SCHOOL MEALS
The extreme drought situation continues to worsen in Kenya. This is caused by the poor short rain season in 2021 coupled with the previous two failed harvest seasons and the early cessation of the 2022 long rain season. Acute malnutrition has also been noted across the counties with 942,000 cases of children aged 6-59 months diagnosed as acutely malnourished. Human Practice Foundation is working in the Potato and Beans project to adjust it to mitigate the challenges brought on by the severe drought. The drought has brought food insecurity, which is a challenge for the schools as more and more kids drop out or are absent due to hunger.
This year, the focus is on supporting school meals. F Trust’s support provides meals for 210 students at Matanya Primary School. Be part of the project here.
