Further Easing of Restriction on Entering Switzerland and Permit Situation.
According to the federal meeting on May 27th, the government has taken further steps on reopening the country:
JUNE 8TH: PROCESSING OF PERMIT APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY EU/EFTA WORKERS AND RECRUITMENT OF INTERNATIONAL WORKERS BY SWISS COMPANIES
From June 8th, the following measures will come into effect:
Swiss companies will be able to employ high-skilled workers from third countries provided that the employment is in the public interest or urgently required and has been proved that no Swiss or EU citizens/residents can do the job.
Cantonal authorities will begin to process resident and cross-border work permit applications by EU/EFTA workers. Applications for short-stay permits for marriage and partnership registration will also resume.
Family reunions will again be allowed for all persons with resident or short-stay permits for Switzerland.
International students will be permitted to enter Switzerland for their studies. However, this measure is not applicable to courses lasting less than 90 days.
JUNE 15TH: FULLY BORDER REOPENING WITH NEIGHBOUR COUNTRIES
The reopening of borders between Switzerland, France, Germany and Austria on June 15th is likely to be confirmed soon as the COVID-19 situation in the four countries has been developing positively. The government of the four countries are aiming at the abolishment of all travel restrictions between the countries and giving their people the freedom of movement again.
Regarding the Swiss-Italian border, Italy has stated it will re-open the borders with the rest of Europe from June 3rd on. However, the Swiss government has not taken any definitive decision on the reopening yet as the government is considering it is too early to lift the border control with Italy on that date.
FURTHER EASING OF RESTRICTION FOR OTHER SCHENGEN STATES AND THIRD COUNTRIES
The government also plans to lift the restriction on entering, working and living in Switzerland for Schengen states latest by July 6th, if the pandemic situation permits. The restrictions for third countries will be decided on a later date after having consulted with other members of Schengen states.
