Non-EU/EFTA Workers to be Permitted to Enter Switzerland Again on July 6th
Starting from July 6th, Switzerland will relax all COVID 19-related restrictions on the admission of workers from non EU/EFTA countries. The cantons will also again process resident permits for non-active third-country citizens, such as people who have retired and are not planning to work in Switzerland; the normal criteria before the epidemic for this permit will once again apply.
Admission to work in the tourism or culture sectors will also be possible again. “In view of the latest developments in the pandemic, in its next step the Federal Council plans to lift restrictions on the admission of workers from third countries on July 6, i.e. the usual quota system will apply from this date. This means, for example, that it will again be possible to come to Switzerland to work in the tourism or culture sectors, or to take education or training courses while working, e.g. as an au-pair, agricultural trainee or on a youth exchange program,” the statement reads.
However, entry restriction for short-term stay, less than 90 days, for third-country citizens is still in force, meaning that third-country citizens are still not permitted to enter Switzerland for vacation, short-term training, medical treatment or non-urgent business meetings. The Swiss government plans to lift this restriction at the same time as the other Schengen states and provided that the epidemic situation allows for it.
