FACTs and FIGUREs about SWISS TRADEMARK and PATENT

Following up on our previous newsletter, Swiss trademark and patent applications are one of the main measurements for the innovation outcomes which made Switzerland the world’s most innovative country. So, this week, we are providing you with some interesting FACTs and FIGUREs about trademark and patent applications in Switzerland:

- According to the ranking of European Patent Office 2018, Switzerland was once again the country with the most patent applications per million inhabitants. The country has 956 applications per Mio. inhabitants which is almost 7 times higher than the average in Europe. 

- There are over 120’000 patents in force and over 500’000 trademarks registered in Switzerland.

- The total trademarks registered in Switzerland are constantly increasing. There are approximately 8’000 registrations more each year since 2016. 

- Most trademark applications come from canton Zurich, Zug and Vaud and the top 3 categories are advertising and management, scientific services and electronic devices.
